SALT LAKE CITY? A ceremony was held at the Utah State Capitol Wednesday in remembrance of 29 victims of domestic violence-related deaths.
Marnie Franich Stark and her boyfriend Jeffrey Dene White are both among the 29 victims who were remembered Wednesday.
In October, White was arrested after he allegedly killed Stark in the presence of two young children. He committed suicide in his jail cell one month later.
Peg Coleman, Director of the Utah Domestic Violence Council, was at the ceremony Wednesday. She told FOX 13 News that domestic violence is one of the most preventable types of crimes.
?It has the most predictive factors to it. So, we want people to access services early, before it ever gets to be a criminal act. Let?s talk about relationships when they?re getting stressful, when they?re feeling not healthy, before it ever gets to this level of violence,? Coleman said.
The UDVC also released its annual Domest Violence Related Death report. The report profiles all 29 of the people who were identified as victims who died as a result of domestic violence.
The report includes the names of seven men, 12 women and 10 other people, such as White, who were classified as ?perpetrator suicides.?
