It's the annual battle for New Mexico, pitting the University of New Mexico Lobos against the New Mexico State Aggies. The New Mexico State Aggies came into the game as the favorites, but ended up with the loss. The UNM Lobos won the war against their in-state rivals NMST, 27-14.
Kasey Carrier and Jhurell Pressley, both running backs for New Mexico, lead the Lobos to victory. Carrier rushed 21 times for 129 yards and one touchdown. Pressley scored twice on 15 rushes for 71 yards. In all, the Lobos ran for 302 yards.
Despite winning the game, UNM did have some trouble with NMST running back Robert Clay, who ran 11 times for 47 yards and a touchdown. The Aggies wouldn't help themselves getting eight penalties for a total of 60 yards and fumbling the ball three times, turning it over twice.
Box Score Hero: New Mexico State's quarterback Andrew Manley went 22-for-34 and 256 yards in the losing effort. His counterpart at UNM, B.R. Holbrook, had only 96 yards in the air.
Rankings Ramifications: Neither team is ranked.
But Did They Cover? Nope. New Mexico State came into the game favored by six.
